Dear Readers: I have been writing and presenting often in Support Groups and in Medical and Health Related Meetings about the importance of prevention in working with young children. I am enclosing here a video about Hearing Screening that needs to be completed as early as possible for all children. THe sooner a child is screened for hearing, the sooner one can develop and implement interventions, if necessary. On the other hand, if a child is not screened for hearing early on, he/she can develop chronic difficulties with, of course, hearing, in developing language (which directly depends on hearing), and the child may present with several symptoms that sometimes are in the child psychiatry range as a consequence of lack of preventive measures. For instance, a child who does not hear well (and then does not develop speech and language according to normal expectations), may develop temper tantrums, defiance, or he/she may stay isolated from other little children when at school. Please, make sure you have all kinds of preventive measures taken if you have little children. Sincerely, Vera Joffe, Ph.D.
