Dear Readers, and Parents of Children with Selective Mutism: Most parents and children are enjoying the summer, as it has been only about a month since school ended. I hope you are all enjoying summer time, and that your children are experiencing new situations, relaxed times, and that you have a chance to travel, or that they are enjoying summer camp. It is also time to start thinking about making plans for the next few weeks, when teachers and school staff will start going back to school. As a matter of fact, I have already set up appointments with parents to meet with teachers two or one week before school starts to help children with Selective Mutism have a few visits to their school, and to their new teacher (and classroom) before the new school year starts. The best way to develop preventive measures for children with Selective Mutism is to have interventions planned and put in place about three weeks before school starts. This is why I am having a Meeting for Parents on August 3rd, at 6:30 pm. I urge parents to call the office and to make sure you register for this event as I will cover the various steps in preparing children (and in working cooperatively with the school staff) for the new school year. Please, call the office for registration and for more information (954)-341-4441. If you do not live close to my office, we will be glad to include you in a Skype participation, if possible. Sincerely, Vera Joffe, Ph.D. (www.verajoffe.com)
