SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP AND EVENT:Learning to Be a Good Sport: Visit from Panthers Hockey Team Coach Robert Tallas to Dr. Joffe's Office

Panthers Hockey Team Gollie Coach Robert Tallas came to Dr. Joffe's Office to talk to children and their parents about "Being a Good Sport": Learning how to go to a game knowing one can lose or win. Mr. Tallas was so wonderful about being a great model for children on how to react in times of frustration during a game, when someone becomes frustrated, and how to be a good sport in all situations. Mr. Tallas explained to the children how Hockey is a different game from others, he gave the kids some goodies to take home, and the children left the office today with a great story and example from this great player and role model. In the end, Mr. Tallas gave the children a ticket to go to tonight's game, and they were very happy with the visit. We are very thankful to Mr. Tallas, and will show you a U-Tube of his "Gollie Camp" in the end of this article.

Mr. Tallas' visit helped children understand how to be a "Good Sport" when playing games, such as not having a temper trantrum when one loses the game, to control your emotions when you become frustrated, and to work hard to not just think of yourself when playing a game. Mr. Tallas reminded the chidlren and adults in the group that we all have to be a "Good Sport"  to help our team, our coaches, our families, and our fans.

Thank you, Mr. Tallas, for your visit.

We hope to have Mr. Tallas back in our Social Skills group again. In the meantime, we will be having other visitors to help us work with topics such as "taking turns", "developing questions and other interactive activities to learn how to talk to other people", "having eye contact", "taking turns choosing what games to play, and what topics to talk about". We will writing stories, making pictures, visit the Museum, among other activities.

If you have any questions about the activity above, and you would like your child to be involved in future meetings, please, call the office at 954-341-4441.
